As part of Girl Scouts’ continued campaign to ensure every girl everywhere has access to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA) will open its newest service center office in Inglewood, 423 N. La Brea Ave., with a grand opening community event scheduled for Feb. 24 from 1to 4 p.m.

The service center and adjacent planned Inglewood Innovation Center will serve as a program hub for the county’s 45,000 Girl Scouts, including the nearly 15,000 girls from Inglewood and surrounding communities. Girl Scouts has taken great strides to create a detailed plan of action that expands its outreach to underrepresented communities who may not have a tradition of Girl Scouting. Additionally, the organization is addressing challenges girls and families from underserved communities may face, opening the door, quite literally, to families who may not have readily considered Girl Scouts as an option for their girls.

The council will launch a capital campaign to support the expansion project on the property for the Inglewood Innovation Center, which will further increase program opportunities for girls and will act as a hotbed for adult volunteer leadership development. The customized, multi-use space will feature a flexible classroom and versatile program environment that integrates components of STEM, entrepreneurship, outdoor, and life skills. GSGLA is also looking to leverage the talent and resources of local organizations and corporations as partners for the site’s programming.

The opening comes on the heels of the council’s October 2018 ribbon-cutting ceremony for its Santa Clarita Service Center opening, as well as its  Upland Service Center which opened this month.

Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, serves more than 45,000 girls in partnership with 25,000 adult members and volunteers throughout the diverse communities of Los Angeles County and parts of Kern, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties. GSGLA is the largest girl-serving nonprofit agency in Los Angeles, preparing girls for a lifetime of leadership through access to key experiences, connections, and programs in entrepreneurship, life skills, outdoor, and STE(A)M.
