The Los Angeles Area Office of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), and its Inter-Alumni Council will host on Saturday the 30th  annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center, 801 E. Carson St., in Carson.

For three decades, the annual breakfast has celebrated the life and achievements of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a 1948 graduate of UNCF member-institution Morehouse College.  Michael L. Thurmond, CEO of DeKalb County, Ga., and fellow HBCU-alumni (UNCF member-institution Paine College) will deliver speeches.

With close to 600 attendees each year, support of the event provides area students with the necessary resources to get to and through college.

“We are so proud of the Los Angeles Inter-Alumni Council of UNCF and this 30th annual celebration of service, community, and education,” said Jennifer L. Childress, area development director, UNCF Los Angeles “Hundreds of Los Angeles students attend UNCF member- institutions and leave their collegiate experience as leaders and change agents, and return to Los Angeles to make an impact in our community.  The funds raised at this wonderful event will help UNCF and our member schools to continue this legacy and develop the next generation of scholars.”
