“Coming to America” is considered a classic, and it was also a big hit for comedic actor Eddie Murphy. According to BET, there will be a sequel (“Coming to America2”) and Murphy has agreed to return as well. In addition, news out of Hollywood reports that production will also begin this year on “Bad Boys for Life” (a sequel to “Bad Boys”), and its original star Will Smith will return.

Deadline reports “Coming To America 2 will use Craig Brewer as the director, who is best known for “Hustle & Flow.” “Black-ish creator Kenya Barris will be rewriting a script from a couple of years ago. The original cast is expected to return, which includes John Amos, James Earl Jones, Arsenio Hall and more. And Eddie Murphy is absolutely a go. The Oscar nominee told Deadline. com, “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that ‘Coming To America 2’ is officially moving forward. We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

The plot is described as, “Eddie Murphy learns that he has a long lost son, who just so happens to be in America. So he must head back to the United States to retrieve his son, who will be the rightful and unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.”

No word on a start date for production but it will more than likely be this year.  “Bad Boys for Life,” which stars Smith and Martin Lawrence, will be released on January 17, 2020.
