Last week Our Weekly had a story about how Houston was up in arms after a car with several family members inside was riddled with bullets, resulting in the death of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes. Witness accounts from the other children in the car seemed to point to a suspect being described at a White man in his 40s. However, after a campaign by journalist and activist Shaun King calling for cooperation from the Houston community to come forward with information, investigators were led to Eric Black Jr. as the shooter. According to police, Black admitted to police he was driving the car, and that his passenger was the one who actually opened fire. Black’s alleged accomplice has also reportedly been arrested and has yet to be named. Police say from the information gathered, it appears the intended targets were someone else, and Barnes’ tragic death was a case of mistaken identity.
