A man was in custody this week in connection with the weekend death of his 4-year-old daughter, who died after being taken to a hospital from a residence in South Los Angeles.

Charles Richard Lee, 23, was arrested on Dec. 2 by LAPD Juvenile Division Detectives, and was being held on $1 million bail in connection with the death of Zaraellia Thompson, jail records show.

Police told ABC7 that the child was found in a bathroom and died at a hospital, but it didn’t appear her death was due to a drowning. Lee has been charged with assault on a child causing death.

Officers were called to the 1500 block of East 42nd Street about 11 a.m. Dec. 2. The coroner’s office reported that an autopsy was pending.
