A 12-year-old boy was arrested late last week for allegedly bringing a handgun to his Lancaster middle school.
School administrators at Gifford C. Cole Middle School, 45006 30th Street East, informed the sheriff’s department about 11 a.m. Oct. 25 that a student may have brought a weapon to the school, officials said.
“The school resource officer assigned to Cole Middle School immediately responded to the campus and conducted a search of the backpack of the student in question,’’ according to Ali Villalobos of the sheriff’s Lancaster Station. “A handgun was found inside the backpack.’’
The boy was detained on suspicion of possessing a firearm on school grounds, she said.
An investigation into the incident continued at press time.
