A lot of people were upset with Kanye West earlier this year when he came out in support of President Donald Trump, while others were upset over his comments that “slavery was a choice.” But others, while not agreeing with him, came to his defense, saying he had that right to side with the President, whom many feel is a racist. Now West has baffled his fans again, with a pro Trump speech on “Saturday Night Live” and a convoluted message on social media calling for the abolishment of the 13th Amendment, which outlaws slavery. On Twitter, the rapper can be seen wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, as he rants about the outsourcing of jobs and the 13th Amendment. It didn’t take long for West’s celebrity peers and one-time fans to respond. Chris Evans, currently known as the actor playing Captain America, questioned West, posting “There’s nothing more maddening than debating someone who doesn’t know history, doesn’t read books and frames their myopia as virtue. The level of unapologetic conjecture I’ve encountered lately isn’t just frustrating, it’s retrogressive, unprecedented and absolutely terrifying.” Famed newswoman Soledad O’Brian went to far as to call West “truly an idiot.” And in response to West saying his message was “sent with love,” O’Brian said, “Message sent with distaste for idiocy.” One Twitter member write simply, “You know very little about very little.” Wrote Ahmed Baba, “This is just terribly sad. The college dropout Kanye used to inspire young Black me, myself included, and now he’s embracing a President that hates them.” West is also receiving flak from some radio programmers as to the lyrics to his latest song, “I Love It,” where he raps about “Black girls…” orally embracing the male sex organ. However, the song was the most added to urban radio last week.
