There have been a lot of firsts for people of color this year, especially in politics. And it seems fashion has also made notable progress we well. This year for the first time Louis Vuitton used a Black model to open its Spring show for the first time in its 163-year history, and Vogue magazine hired a Black photographer to shoot its cover story (which happened to be Beyoncé). Now according to Refinery 29, Elite Models has signed Aaron Philip, a trans woman of color who is also in a wheelchair, afflicted with cerebral palsy. The 17-year-old is from Bronx, New York. “I’m signed to @EliteNYC,” the transgender wrote on Twitter. “Thank you so much for supporting me through my journey to make the fashion world more inclusive. This hasn’t been easy, but we did it! I’m so excited and grateful to work hard and share this new chapter of my life with you all.”
