Get ready for a month of fun and dancing at the city of Santa Clarita’s Thursdays@Newhall series, presented by Valencia Auto Center, as Old Town Newhall plays host to the best in art and entertainment in September. Thursdays@Newhall is an ongoing opportunity for residents of Santa Clarita to attend free shows, concerts and special events on Thursdays throughout the year.

Shake off the stress at JAM Sessions on Sept. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m., with an evening of salsa dancing. Join local dance instructor Jonathan Kraut and the Santa Clarita Chapter of Rueda in the Park as they teach you the Rueda de Casio, a Cuban form of salsa danced in a circle. You’ll also enjoy live music from Fay Roberts and Orquesta Charangoa, who will leave you inspired, engaged and better at communicating through movement! JAM Sessions is hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation, bringing dance and original live performances to the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main St.

Also on Sept. 6, at The MAIN (24266 Main Street), 10 performers will take the stage for 10 minutes each and share their comedy, storytelling, short films and music at the monthly “10 by 10” show, from 7 to 9 p.m. Performances this month include comedy from Jeff Johnson and Buck Ball; music by Abby Lyons, The New Mexican, and GRIT; ventriloquist Dan Sachoff; magic by Raul Fernandez; storytelling from Ty Fance and Andrew Solmssen; and a screening of short film “The Sin Washer,” directed by Iram Parveen Bilal.

Revved Up returns to Variety Night and will take place on Sept. 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. Support the Santa Clarita car scene at this local car meet up open to all types of vehicles. Enjoy the sights of clean lines and the sounds of engines roaring as fast cars, classic cars and everything in between line Main Street. Interested in showing your car at this event? Visit ThursdaysAtNewhall.com/VarietyNight.

The same night, local musicians will take the stage for Note by Note, inside The MAIN, from 7 to 9 p.m. “Note by Note” is a free musical showcase delighting audiences with a variety of genres. Bands, duos and soloists will perform a wide range of styles, including rock, folk, Celtic, Americana, blues, jazz, country, experimental, western and more! Featured performers in September include Emily Zuzik, Tom Corbett, Abby Lyons and Santiago Valencia. Artists interested in performing at Note by Note can learn more at ThursdaysAtNewhall.com/NotebyNote.

Old Town Newhall takes on an East Coast feel as Main Street transforms into Coney Island for this month’s SENSES Block Party, on Sept. 20, from 7 to 10 p.m. Join in on the Mermaid Parade, marvel at the World’s Strongest Man or play a classic carnival game just like on the boardwalk! Be sure to enjoy adult beverages from Newhall Refinery, grab a bite to eat from food trucks and dance to live music.

Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 18, the art gallery at The MAIN will feature a collection of work by artist Isaac Brynjegard-Bialik. The exhibit is titled “You Did WHAT To My Comics?!?” and comprises works made from cut-up comic books. It explores the dreams, prophecies and visions of traditional cultural narratives. The community is invited to a free art reception on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 7 to 10 p.m. at The MAIN. Guests will enjoy light snacks, music and a chance to meet the artist.

Thursdays@Newhall wraps up the month on Sept. 27 with the ARTree Speaker Series.  The ARTree Speaker Series presents fascinating lectures plus free-form discussions with influential artists and leaders who bring art, arts education and exceptional projects to the diverse Santa Clarita Valley community. Speakers will inspire and motivate your appetite for creativity. Learn more about the speaker series by visiting ThursdaysAtNewhall.com/Artree.
