Book fair, music festival highlight summer activities

The 12th Annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair will take place at 10 a.m,. Saturday at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, 3650 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in Los Angeles.

Considered to be one of the city’s most popular book festivals,  the book fair this year will celebrate “Our Southern Roots” and is an opportunity to meet some of the nation’s best-selling authors, poets and dramatists.

Also on Saturday, the 7th Annual Power Fest will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. at 8400 S. Vermont Ave. See performers Queens of the New Age, Rapsody, Quetzal, along with  DJs Novena Carmel, Peezie and Moni Vargas. There will be empowerment healthy workshops, along with a Ferris wheel, carnival games and a number of food trucks.  Shar Jossell and Ernesto Rocha will serve as emcees.

On Sept. 2, the “End of Summer Music and Cultural Celebration” will be presented by the office of Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer Sr. at Exposition Park, 3911 S. Figueroa St. The music will be at 1 p.m. and will feature Grammy Award-winners Deniece Williams and Poncho Sanchez.

The family-friendly event will include food, vendor booths and activities for children.
