Kenya Barris (266756)

Our Weekly has been informing readers of all the Black content creators – Shonda Rhimes, Oprah, Spike Lee, Jordan Peele, Ava DuVernay – that have signed deals with major streams such as NetFlix, Apple and Google to create content for an urban audience. The latest to ink a deal, reports several entertainment industry trades, is Kenya Barris the Emmy and Golden Glove nominee who created “Black-ish” and wrote the movie “Girls Trip,” which starred Tiffany Haddish, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith. Barris will produce a project via his production company, Khalabo Ink Society. A press release indicated the project will reflect Barris’ ability to “create stories that reflect culture through an urban, youth and female focused lens.” NetFlix has 130 million subscribers to its streaming service.
