Incoming students will have a chance to prep for college at Compton College’s annual New Student Welcome Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 22. New Student Welcome Day provides an ideal opportunity for new students to become acquainted with college life and begin taking steps toward their success at Compton College. Touring the campus, meeting faculty, making new friends, and becoming familiar with student services are some of the activities available to participants during this event.

To RSVP for New Student Welcome Day, students may call (310) 900-1600, ext. 2765, visit www.compton.edu/nswd, or register in person at the Welcome Center in Room D-27. For more information, please email: outreach@compton.edu.

Check in will take place from 8 to 8:30 a.m. in the Gymnasium, followed by introductions and a welcome message from Compton College President Keith Curry. Information sessions and tours will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Resource Fair showcasing academic programs and student resources will take place from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Tartar Quad. Guests are welcome and free parking will be available in Lot A near the Artesia Boulevard entrance.

Participants will have a chance to meet with academic counselors and student services advisors; learn how to apply for financial aid and receive information about the AB 540/Dream Act; explore majors and careers; and get information about career and technical education, as well as how to transfer to a four-year college or university. New students will get a firsthand account of campus life from Compton College student ambassadors; and get assistance with registration for classes.

The workshops and activities are designed to give students the tools they need to be prepared for their first day of classes and beyond. In addition, there will be an opportunity for participants to win prizes and receive a complimentary lunch.

Students will also have the opportunity to get their student ID, purchase a semester parking permit, visit the bookstore and learn how to use the MyECC online information portal and student email.
