Best Start West Athens recently held Summerfest to provide children and families in the West Athens community of Los Angeles a day of fun and resources to help parents and caregivers prepare their children for a better future.
“In order to connect with the community, we want to increase child engagement and provide fun and safe places for families,” said Crystal Pitts, member of the leadership board at Best Start West Athens. “There is a high crime rate in our community and kids don’t have things to do in the summer. Best Start West Athens goals are to encourage community safety, green spaces, and connecting children with parents. Summerfest accomplishes our mission and offers parents with resources to build stronger families.”
The event was held at Helen Keller Park and co-sponsored by First 5 LA, the County of Los Angeles California, C.H.A.N.G.E.S., Tiff’s Power Place, and Phenomenal Angels.
Residents can learn more about events like this and Best Start West Athens at one of their monthly community partnership meetings that are designed to share information about different ways to support children and assist parents with building their leadership skills. Childcare, food, and transportation are provided at each meeting.
