A ribbon-cutting ceremony topped off by a backpack giveaway is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21 at Sibrie Community Park and T-ball Field (formerly El Segundo Park) at 1300 W. El Segundo Blvd. in Compton.
The park is noted for introducing baseball to a number of famous professional players who grew up locally. There will be appearances by several former member of the Los Angeles Dodgers Free food will be included.
The event will be hosted by Compton Councilwoman Janna Zurita along with Micah Ali, president of the Compton Unified School District board of trustees, and representatives of the Major League Baseball Academy which operates on the grounds of Compton College.
