With the temperatures forecasted to be significantly over 100° this weekend,  Bridge to Home, 23031 Drayton St. in Santa Clarita, will  keep their shelter open until 8:30 p.m. tonight to provide a cool place for those needing to escape the heat.

The regular dinner service, Feeding It Forward, will be served this evening; the shelter will be open tomorrow from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Donations of water, ice and snacks are needed for these additional shelter days. In addition, volunteers are also needed to assist. Community members wishing to volunteer should contact Olga Ruiz (olga.ruiz@btohome.org). For donations, please deliver items to the Bridge to Home Shelter at the Drayton Street location after 12 p.m. Or at the administrative office, 23752 Newhall Ave., before noon.

For future days, when temperatures are forecasted to be above 99°, officials at Bridge said they will try to keep the shelter open to provide relief on excessively hot days.
