Democratic Rep. Emilia Sykes, an Ohio legislator, says she is facing undue scrutiny by the Ohio Highway Patrol every time she goes to the Ohio Statehouse to serve her community. Most recently, she was stopped by officers as she made her way into the building, despite the fact that she was displaying her official badge, reports Fox News 19 in Columbus, Ohio. Sykes, 33, says it’s not the first time. She says many lawmakers and staff go through the same doors as she does, but they are not subject to the same scrutiny. She tells The Columbus Dispatch the uneven enforcement of security is a sign of “ongoing chaos at the Statehouse.” Both House leaders and the Highway Patrol have scheduled meetings with Sykes to discuss the issue.
