Bringing attention to National Construction Safety Week, industry leaders Fluor, Balfour Beatty, Flatiron, and Dragados who comprise the LAX Automated People Mover Team (LINXS) and Balfour Beatty US recently equipped every classroom in the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD) with emergency preparedness kits that will effectively support the school district’s campus wide emergency plan for student and staff safety.

“These emergency kits empower classroom teachers with equipment that supports ongoing emergency safety training and life saving choices in the event of a crisis,” says Balfour Beatty Sr. Inclusion and Diversity Director Sophia Cavalli.

IUSD has been making major improvements to its school campuses, curriculum, and course offerings in preparation of the new school year and is committed to carrying out its mission of ensuring that all of its students are taught a rigorous standards-based curriculum, supported by highly-qualified staff.

This week, officials from Inglewood Unified were also joined by officials from Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), students, and community members for a groundbreaking at Beulah Payne Elementary School. The construction project will include the demolition of portable classrooms, and the building of new, sound insulated classrooms.

The funding provided by LAWA is specifically for sound insulation to enhance the learning environment for the 685 students at this site. The funds will be used specifically for: 105 new acoustically rated windows, 23 new sound attenuating doors, installation of a new heating and air conditioning system to maintain a comfortable environment when the windows and doors are closed, and the addition of insulation in the walls and ceilings to further reduce noise intrusion. LAWA is also providing technical assistance and support throughout IUSD’s implementation of the sound insulation program.

IUSD has made major strides in carrying out the core values of its mission with the delivery of district-wide programs and services in recent years that are ensuring its students are 21st Century college and career ready.
