Arrest in truck chase

A man led sheriff’s deputies on a chase in an allegedly stolen box truck in Santa Clarita earlier this week, but was arrested when the vehicle became disabled and he made a frantic dash across the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway before surrendering.

The truck, with at least one of its tires flattened, rolled to a stop alongside the center median of the northbound 14 Freeway near Placerita Canyon Road about 12:30 p.m. The suspect jumped out of the truck, crawled over the median and ran across the southbound freeway, dodging speeding vehicles.

He scrambled down the freeway embankment but quickly raised his hands then dropped to the ground as pursuing authorities caught up to him.

The suspect’s name was not immediately released. The chase was initially conducted by deputies from the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley Station, but California Highway Patrol officers joined the pursuit when it went onto the freeway.
