The Santa Clarita City Council invites community members to transform everyday curbside recycling carts into imaginative art pieces for the 2018 Earth Arbor Day “cArt aRt” competition. Get ready to let your creative juices flow as you take an ordinary trash can and change it into a work of art! Residents must complete an entry form and submit it to the city by April 13 to receive a free recycling cart from Waste Management to participate in the contest.

Residents must provide all materials used in the art project, with the exception of the recycling bin, which can be painted or left natural. No containers that once held hazardous waste products may be used in the competition, including used containers of paint, oil, pesticides, cleaning products or chemicals.

Participants will present their carts between 9 and 10 a.m. at the city of Santa Clarita’s Earth Arbor Day event on Saturday, April 28 at Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Rd. The carts will be on display at the Environmental Services booth at the event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The winners of the contest will be announced the week following the festival and receive cash prizes. Carts will be judged by city staff from the Arts and Events and Environmental Services divisions in the following categories: Grand Prize ($200), most creative ($100), best local flair ($100) and best green theme ($100). Earth Arbor Day attendees will be able to vote for the fan favorite ($50).
