Four Black police officers in Little Rock filed a discrimination lawsuit against the city and its police chief Monday (March 12). According to the officers’ attorney, the police chief – who is Black as well – was far more willing to harass and discipline Black officers to “relieve white folks of a lot of their guilt,” reports Newsweek. Lt. Earnest White and Sgts. Derrick Threadgill and Willie Davis, as well as former cop Jackie Parker claim in the filing that they were subjected to “disparate” treatment due to their ages and race. The officers also said the hostile work environment was inflamed by the department’s retaliation against their complaints. According to the lawsuit, the four said they were also targets of discrimination because of their membership in the Little Rock Black Police Officers Association. Two more officers are expected to be joining the lawsuit as well.
