A head-on crash this week in Santa Clarita left a suspected DUI driver dead and three other people injured.

The collision was reported at 10:52 p.m. Tuesday at Dorothy Street and Golden Valley Road, said Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol.

Matthew Thibodeau, 31, of Canyon Country died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported.

According to the CHP, Thibodeau was driving a white 2002 Honda Civic  south on Golden Valley Road, approaching Dorothy Street “at a high rate of speed.”

“A tan Toyota Sienna was traveling northbound on Golden Valley Road, within the No. 1 lane, (and) entered the intersection of Dorothy Street,” a CHP statement said.

“The driver of the white Honda … made an immediate left turn from the No. 1 lane of Golden Valley Road to eastbound Dorothy Street against a red traffic arrow, directly in front of the Toyota Sienna’s path of travel,” the CHP statement said. “The white Honda Civic and the tan Toyota Sienna were involved in a head-on collision.’’

The driver of the Toyota Sienna and his 3-year-old daughter were taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate-to-major injuries, the CHP reported.

A passenger in the Honda was taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

“Excessive speed and alcohol may be a contributing factor for the cause of this collision,” the CHP statement continued. “Through investigative measures, it was determined (Thibodeau) was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.’’

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call the CHP Newhall Area office at (661) 294-5540.
