Authorities this week identified a man who was fatally shot during an argument in the parking lot of a Compton shopping center and whose killer remains at large.

The shooting was reported about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of North Long Beach Boulevard, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Jamarcus Palmer, 28, whose home town was unknown, died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported.

Investigators learned that Palmer had gotten into an argument with the suspect, who pulled out a handgun and shot the victim at least once in the upper body, Navarro-Suarez said.

The suspect fled north on Bullis Road, but a description of the getaway vehicle was not released, nor was a description of the gunman.

It was unclear if the shooting was gang-related, according to Navarro-Suarez, who asked anyone with information on the case to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
