Singer Thelma Houston Named Grand Marshal of Lynwood Christmas Parade

The City of Lynwood and the Lynwood City Council has named legendary singer Thelma Houston to serve as the Grand Marshal of the City’s 2017 Christmas Parade. On Friday, Dec. 8, the City of Lynwood will host its annual Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade at 7 p.m. The parade festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a VIP reception and a special City Council presentation of the key to the city to Houston at Bateman Hall in the Lynwood Civic Center. The City of Lynwood selected Houston in recognition of her storied history and contributions to the community. The next day, Saturday, Dec. 9th, Houston will perform at Sheryl Lee Ralph’s “Divas Simply Singing,” the longest consecutive running musical AIDS benefit in the the state. Houston is a Grammy Award winning artist and her song,  “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” was a No. 1 international hit. After decades of chart-topping performances and 23 albums, Houston is still going strong.
