A free turkey giveaway will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the 109th Street Recreation Center in Watts.

Sponsored by the Cheyenne Martin Foundation (CMF), participants must be 21 years of age and present a California driver’s license or state issued identification card. A raffle will be conducted to win a a 43-inch flat screen television. (winner must be present to receive item).

“The turkey drive brings a lot of joy to families in need every year,” said Martin who also hosts a similar event each year in Pittsburgh, Pa. “Often, the turkey is one of the most expensive items at the Thanksgiving meal and many people can’t affort them. One turkey can feed many people, so CMF’s reach is pretty large if we hand out 200. This event helps to fulfill our goals, empower the community and spread holiday joy.”

CMF has been a long-time support er of the 109th Street Recreation center and also the Downtown Women’s Center along Skid Row. CMF also partners with various organizations such as the Jenesse Center for battered women, and the Bradley Center which provides Los Angeles residents with free and low-cost services.
