National Adoption Day approaches

National Adoption Day is a celebratory event honoring adoptive families across the country. Four hundred cities all across America will participate in the one-day event that can result in 5,000 adoptions. In addition, local Adoption Days take place in Los Angeles every few months year round.

This year, National Adoption Day will be held locally on Nov. 17, at Edmunds D. Edelman Children’s Court, 201 Centre Plaza Dr. #3, in Monterey Park from 1:30-3 p.m.

The Los Angeles Adoption Day Program began in 1997 as a joint venture between the Alliance, Los Angeles Juvenile Court (Children’s Court), DCFS, and Public Counsel. The pioneering program took off as an answer to the overwhelming number of foster care youth stuck in a backlog. Combined, they eliminated the backlog and in doing so established a national model for performing adoptions. Since 2000, National Adoption Day has placed more than 50,000 children with permanent families that love and care for them.
