The Palmdale City Library designated the week of Oct. 2 through 8 as its “Big Read Week,” in an effort to top encourage everyone to make a point to read every day, and especially to children.

“Many of us think that perhaps the greatest gift we can give to children is the ability to read and a love for it,” said Library Director Robert Shupe. “So in conjunction with the launch of our new 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, we invited folks to join us in making it a ‘big deal’ to read – and especially to read to children – during our ‘Big Read Week.’ Whether you joined us for one of our special guest storytime sessions or not, we encourage you to come to the library sometime to see our ‘Reading Rocket,” to learn more about our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program and especially to sit down with a child and read to them this week…and beyond!”

The event will have its final special guest readers today at 10 a.m. with Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford, and Deputy Sheriff David Ibanez, of the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
