On Sunday, Oct. 8 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the kick off of LA Fashion Week, Wallace Walker Productions will launch what will be the first in a new generation of social, style and charitable events. Tapestry celebrates the convergence of fashion, style and contemporary culture. It’s bold, chic, sexy and exciting. Tapestry is an interwoven, synergistic platform upon which designer Myra Wallace will seamlessly and colorfully thread the genres of creative expertise into a single memorable night, showcasing both her men’s and women’s collections. It will be the place to see and be seen.
Recognizing that a piece of “tapestry” is only as strong and as beautiful as its fibers, Wallace has dedicated a part of the show to honor fashion icons and business trailblazers; Harold Hambrick, Thomas “TJ” Walker and Karen “Karicean” Dick. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Treasure Your Chest, a breast cancer awareness organization.
“Historically, the fashion industry has excluded the general public from attending the industry shows, and the cost to participate was extremely high, making it nearly impossible for many gifted—yet financially challenged—Black designers,” explained Wallace. “Well, true to the form of breaking the mold of traditions, I decided to change the game and adjust how the public receives fashion forecasts, by opening my show up to the public and at the same time shining the light on Breast Cancer Awareness. And, I’m paying tribute to some major movers and shakers in the fashion, style and business communities by honoring them with the ‘Fashion and Style Icon’ Award.”
The event will be held at the Hawthorne Art Complex located at 13040 Cerise Ave., Hawthorne beginning from 3-5 p.m. with a mixer, live entertainment, and a fashion vendor experience. The fashion show is from 5-6 p.m. and a trunk show will follow with Wallace and Dr. Robina Smith, breast cancer surgeon and the founder of Treasure Your Chest.
Tickets for the event range from $25-50. General admission includes open seating, access to pre-show vendor experience, and post show trunk show. VIP ticket holders enjoy the red carpet entrance to the pre-show festivities, premium reserved seating around the runway, Tapestry swag bag, access to VIP lounge which includes a wine bar and tray served appetizers, one door prize raffle ticket, and post show trunk show.
