‘Brown Girls’ Wins Streamy Award

The Streamy Awards, honoring the best in online video and the creators behind it, streamed live worldwide on Twitter Tuesday (Sept. 26) and was hosted by comedian and musical YouTube star Jon Cozart. Iconic ‘70s disco group, Village People, with original lead singer Victor Willis back at the helm, closed out the night with a medley of the group’s most beloved songs, including “Y.M.C.A.,” “In The Navy” and “Macho Man.” Streamy winners included “Brown Girls” for Indie Series. Created by Fatimah Asghar and Samantha Bailey, the WebTV show has been picked up by HBO. “Brown Girls” centers around the friendship between a young Muslim woman who is gay and another young Black woman as they explore their identities.
