Compton College is inviting the public to celebrate 90 years of educational opportunities being provided to Compton Community College District with a free Homecoming Festival and Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Compton College President Keith Curry predicts an exciting celebration honoring the District’s legacy.

“Compton College was recently distinguished as the 114th California Community College by the Board of Governors,” Curry said. “We are celebrating a rich history of educating local communities, as well as encouraging and supporting many notable alumnae. The Homecoming Festival allows us to pay tribute to our history, while looking forward to many more years of helping students create their success stories. We hope as many people as possible will attend, and we look forward to welcoming all to a fun-filled event.”

The Compton College Homecoming Festival and Car Show will also feature music, food trucks, and vendors, followed by a Tartar football game at 6 p.m. vs. Pasadena City College. Live musical performances will include: Quinto Sol, The Steady 45s, Glifos, and Trio Del Alma. The Homecoming Festival and Car Show will take place at Compton College, 1111 E. Artesia Blvd. Parking will be available in lots A and F.

Football admission prices are $8 general admission, $5 senior citizens and Compton College employees, $3 for students without an ASB sticker, and free for students with a Compton College fall 2017 ASB sticker and youth under the age of 12 years.

The Compton Community College District (CCCD) was established in 1927 as a component of the Compton Union High School District. The CCCD encompasses an area of about 29 square miles, making educational services available to nearly 300,000 residents of Compton, Lynwood, Paramount and Willowbrook, as well as portions of Athens, Bellflower, Carson, Downey, Dominguez, Lakewood, Long Beach and South Gate.

Today, about 290 full and part-time faculty members teach and support more than 30 academic degree programs and 28 certificate programs.
