A single-vehicle rollover crash of an SUV on the northbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Acton late last week left a year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy dead. The driver of the SUV, 37-year-old Karen Adams of Los Angeles, died the next day at Antelope Valley Hospital; two other children were badly injured.

The crash was reported about 6:20 a.m. July 20 south of Ward Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Paramedics and two air ambulances were sent to the scene.

“For reasons being investigated, (the driver) allowed (the SUV) to veer to the right, colliding with the dirt embankment, causing (the SUV) to overturn several times,” a CHP statement said.

The year-old girl was ejected from the Chevrolet Trailblazer and died at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, according to the CHP, which reported that safety equipment was not used to secure the toddler. The CHP said Adams and the older children had their seatbelts fastened.
