A 72-year-old motorcyclist was killed this week near Lancaster in a crash involving a big rig pulling two flatbed trailers.

The collision was reported about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of East Avenue I and 70th Street East, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 1996 Freightliner traveling north on 70th Street stopped at Avenue I and then pulled into the intersection, into the path of the motorcyclist, who was traveling westbound on Avenue I and could not stop in time, the CHP reported.

The 1991 Harley Davidson and its rider struck the rear right of the big rig’s first trailer, according to the CHP, which reported that the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lancaster resident’s name was withheld pending notification of his family.

The trucker, a 36-year-old Lancaster man, was uninjured.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as factors in the crash, which remains under investigation, according to the CHP.
