The Palmdale City Library Classics Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. July 24 to discuss “The Country Girls” by Edna O’Brien.

“The Country Girls” follows the exploits of Kate and Baba, a pair of Irish childhood friends who have left the safety of their convent school to embark on life and love in the big city. Once there, they struggle to maintain their somewhat tumultuous relationship.

“Do you have a passion for classics?,” asked Debbie Petersen, assistant library director. “Join us on July 24 to discuss ‘The Country Girls,’ Edna O’Brien’s classic novel about two young girls trying to find their way in the world.”

New members are always welcome to attend the Classics Book Club which meets on the fourth Monday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m.

The Friends of the Palmdale Library will conduct a sale of “gently used” books tomorrow at 10 a.m. with all proceeds going to support the library. The group is a nonprofit organization staffed by community volunteers.

“Come find a great deal on books for your summer enjoyment,” said Tina Victory, secretary with the Friends of the Palmdale Library. “While you’re at it, join Friends of the Palmdale Library and help make your library a better place.”

The library is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
