Auditions will take place on Monday, May 1 for the Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) production of “Rapunzel” scheduled for two shows on May 5 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center, 750 W. Lancaster Blvd. The curtain rises 11 a.m. (school show) and again at 7 p.m. for the public.

“Repunzel” is widely held as one of the classics from the Brothers Grim. Their 1812 publication of the story, however, came from an unknown German author. On May 1, MCT will cast up to 60 local children with some of the representatives of the theater company serving as assistant directors for both shows. Complete costumes, scenery, props and makeup will be provided by MCT. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade are encouraged to audition, with no advance theatrical preparation needed. The roles will include Rapunzel, the little girl with the ever-growing hair trapped in a tower; the Lost Prince; Frenchy and his friends; the wood elves; the Corn Potato spies who reside in the Ogre’s garden and all of the attendant gremlins, pixies, trolls and unicorns. There are parts for the Madame Gothel troll and for the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Youngsters auditioning must be accompanied by a chaperone (one per child) and should arrive at the rear door of the LPAC by 3:45 p.m. audition day and plan to stay until 6 p.m. Selected youth will be asked to stay for rehearsal immediately after the auditions; a detailed rehearsal scheduled will be distributed by the end of the evening.

MCT tour directors will conduct rehearsals for  ages four to five years each day prior to the show. While not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the week and be able to attend each rehearsal required for their role. Cast members scheduled for the full hours of rehearsal time will be asked to bring a lunch, snack and dinner.
