Construction of the $15 million Burbank Airport-North Metrolink Station is underway at the northwest corner of Hollywood Way and San Fernando Boulevard, with completion slated for the spring of 2018.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority provided $12.3 million of the funding, with the remainder coming from the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority.
“This project will provide a better, faster and more seamless rail connection between Burbank Airport and the Metrolink commuter rail system,” said Metro board Chair John Fasana. “It will also encourage more Southern Californians to utilize the Burbank Airport and provide an alternative to driving on the I-5 Freeway.”
The station—located between the Sun Valley and Downtown Burbank stations—will be on Metrolink’s Antelope Valley Line. The airport is already served by a station on Metrolink’s Ventura County Line. Both of those lines also serve Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority will operate a free shuttle to get passengers to the new station, which will be about one mile from the current airport terminal and will be within walking distance of the planned new terminal and a proposed mixed-use development.
The station will be equipped with rail ticket vending machines, seating, bike racks and an LED display board showing train, flight and bus arrival and departure times. A pedestrian sidewalk and transit plaza will be built adjacent to the station platform and San Fernando Boulevard.
Metro CEO Phil A. Washington said the station will provide “new and quicker options for residents from the Santa Clarita, Antelope, and northern San Fernando valleys who want to get to the airport without driving.”
