City urges local shopping

“Shop More in Lancaster” may do more than ease your gasoline bill. Merchants throughout the city attest that the yearly campaign has supported job creation, buffeted city coffers and has assisted in keeping money in the community.

“Every year we encourage residents to shop locally,” said Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. “When we shop locally, we support the many businesses owned by our friends and neighbors as well as give the local economy a boost with local sales tax revenue, supporting such services as law enforcement, road maintenance, parks and local events.”

The “Shop More in Lancaster” campaign will offer a new holiday contest this year. “Elf on the Shelf” on the city’s Facebook page will feature riddles and clues hinting as to which local shopping location the Elf will be hiding each week. Those who locate him can snap his picture and share it on the Facebook timeline, with #ShopLancasterElf and the name of the merchant, for a chance to win a prize. The contest will run through Dec. 18.
