If you visit Central Avenue near 43rd Street on Dec. 20, be sure to wear your top coat, boots, mittens—and even long underwear—as the first-ever “South LA Winter Wonderland” takes over a portion of the famous thoroughfare from 4 to 7 p.m.
Sponsored by the office of Councilman Curren D. Price, the afternoon will feature family-friendly activities, live music, and tons and tons of snow complete with a slide.
The free event will also include a special appearance by none other than jolly old St. Nick.
Prior to the “snow day,” on Dec. 15 more than 500 nearby residents are expected to gather at Vermont Square Park for more family-friendly activities. Be there for train rides, ginger bread house kits, book giveaways and an appearance by Tommy the Clown. As well, a snow play area will be featured.
The latter event is a collaborative effort by the Department of Recreation and Parks, LAPD, LAFD, Department of Sanitation, and 7-Eleven which is donating free coffee.
“I’m elated to host this free event for our children and families,” Price said. “As the grandfather of small kids, I want our youth to have all types of experiences, like playing in the snow. That’s why we’re bringing some of that magic to the new 9th. We want to create memories that our youngsters will treasure for years to come.”
