A memorial fund has been established to help cover funeral and burial costs for Jazmin Veronica Hernandez, the 19-year-old who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Palmdale.

Hernandez died on Nov. 21 after she sat in the eastbound lane of Palmdale Boulevard, near 5th Street West, and was hit by a vehicle. It was not known why Hernandez was sitting in the street, but a relative said the young lady had been suffering from depression and was attending therapy sessions.

The driver was not injured in the collision and remained at the scene, later cooperating with the investigation, Sheriff’s authorities said. Hernandez’s death was ruled a suicide, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

“She was a loving niece,” said Hernandez’s uncle, Gene Hernandez. “She left behind two young girls—one is eight months old and the other is two years old.”
