The Boeing Co. announced this week it will shift 1,600 jobs from its Huntington Beach location to facilities in Los Angeles County, Seal Beach and St. Louis.

The aerospace company reported that it was reducing its space for facilities by about 4.5 million square feet by the end of 2020.

“In order to push ourselves farther and win more business, we need to make the most of our resources and talent,” said Leanne Caret, president and chief executive of the company’s defense, space and security division. “These steps will help us be a stronger partner for our customers worldwide.”

Jobs will be shifted from Huntington Beach to El Segundo, Long Beach and Seal Beach plants and offices. Some jobs will also be shifted to St. Louis and Huntsville, Ala.

Some jobs in Kent, Wash., will be moved to another city in that state, Tukwila. Boeing also plans to close its El Paso, Texas, and Newington, Va., locations.

About 500 jobs will be moved to St. Louis and 400 to Huntsville.
