Authorities this week identified a 9-year-old girl who was fatally injured when she was hit by a vehicle after she got off a city transit bus and darted into traffic in Valencia.

The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. Monday near Wiley Canyon and Orchard Village roads, where the bus stopped short of the intersection, according to Sgt. Brian Hudson of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station.

Ana Galvan of Santa Clarita died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office and the sheriff’s department.

Galvan was believed to be with at least one of her parents when she exited the bus and ran across the northbound lanes of Orchard Village and into the southbound lanes, where she was struck by a vehicle traveling in the No. 2 lane, Hudson said.

A deputy who was passing by the scene stopped and began CPR on the girl, aided by another passerby who is a nurse, Hudson said.

The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, Hudson said.

“There is no reason to believe alcohol or drugs played a part in this tragic accident,” Hudson said.
