The highly anticipated Kaleidoscope Music and Art Festival will welcome noted Los Angeles artist/muralist John Zender Estrada to the Palmdale Amphitheater. The festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Born and reared in East Los Angeles, Zender has produced more than 300 murals in greater Los Angeles County and throughout the nation. As founder of Creative Art Solutions, Zender has devoted many hours nurturing budding young artists and making a difference in many underserved communities.

Zender’s work has been displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zero-1 Gallery, Pueblo Gallery, CSDI, and at ICU Gallery. He has hosted several one-man shows and a number of group exhibitions, the latter with fellow Chicano artists. In his teens, Zender lived briefly in Mexico where he was introduced to the famous “Los Tres Grandes” (the legendary work of Diego Rivera, Jose Clementa Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros).

In 1995, Zender’s work reportedly arrived at a “spiritual turning point” and began incorporating more intimate or personal ideas concerning spirituality. In this new chapter in his career, Zender said he was influenced by artists Roberto Matta, Kandinski, Gorky, Lam, and Basquiat as well as the Holy Bible as he embarked on his painting theory “The Process of Change.” It was also the time, he said, when he began using the moniker “Zender.”

“We’re thrilled to have someone with John’s talent, passion and commitment to the arts as part of this exciting new event,” said Annie Pagliaro, Palmdale recreation supervisor. “In particular, his Urban Chicano work is a part of the LA/Southern California experience and is a beautiful expression of the diverse artistic landscape that makes up the art scene here in the Southland. His work will certainly resonate with the attendees.”

Admission to Kaleidoscope is free. Live music will be featured along with visual and performing arts, artisan vendors and wares, educational displays, a variety of cuisine, and craft beers. Musical acts will include The Sunday Night Singers, Paddy’s Pig, Phat Cat Swinger, The High D Boys and the Los Angeles cast of Beatlemania.
