Fatal hit-and-run in Pomona

Authorities today were trying to track down a hit-and-run driver who was behind the wheel of a older-model Saab that struck and fatally injured a man in a wheelchair in Pomona, police said today.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported at 11:12 p.m. Sunday at 944 West Holt Ave., according to Pomona police. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

The Major Accident Investigation Team, which is probing the fatality, closed Holt Avenue between Hamilton Boulevard and Fillmore Place until about 5:30 this morning, police said.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a 2004 four-door Saab with a license number of 7SQJ485. Police did not release the car’s color.

“Investigators are currently looking to talk to the registered owner of the vehicle, and are actively pursuing leads,” Pomona police Sgt. Robert DeVee said.
