The city of Palmdale is looking for artisans to participate in its latest art and music festival called Kaleidoscope, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Palmdale Amphitheater.
Organizers are looking for artisans who work in mediums such as blown and/or fused glass, jewelry, printmaking, ceramics, leather, sculpture, clothing/textiles, mixed media, woodwork, printing, illustration and photography. Apply for a booth prior to the Sept. 22 deadline. Booths are available for a $100 refundable deposit; insurance must be purchaed in advance. The completed registration must be accompanied by six photographs of the artist’s work, as well a brief biography and statement.
“Kaleidoscope is a unique art show of exhibitors who create original artwork, providing an opportunity for the general public to learn, enjoy and appreciate art and culture,” said Keri Smith, director of Palmdale Recreation and Culture. “To meet this purpose, Kaleidoscope is open to all artists as a place for the presentation and sale of their original, creative designs and work.”
Part of the mission of the event is to have exhibitors provide an informational display for visitors that will highlight the artist’s work, provide a biographical background, and allow for information on how the artwork was created. Examples of this format will include a photo display, video or published articles (describing how the art/craft was created), and a demonstration of an essential element of the work while it is on display.
The event will feature live music from Phat Cat Swinger, The High D Boys and the Los Angeles cast of “Beatlemania.” Various visual and performing arts, and vendors offering their wares, as well as food samples and educational displays will also be included. Local craft brewers will present “The Art of the Brew.”
