Teens Exploring Technology, TXT, will host its annual Demo Day Saturday from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at USC in Salvatori Computer Science Center 101, 941 Bloom Walk, Los Angeles.

The program is the culmination of a 12-week Summer Coding Leadership Academy and will give young African American and Latino males ages 14-18 years old an opportunity to demonstrate the skills they learned about starting and developing a mobile app business. The 35 participants have been divided into teams, and the first place winning team will earn $2,000 in prize money to actually start up the company. A panel of tech-industry represnetatives will determine the winning team.

The audience will also have an opportunity to vote for the people’s choice winner.

The presentations will be followed by a reception from 1-3 p.m. which will feature one of the group’s 2014 alumni, Cesar Alvarenga, discussing how his experience in 2014 has served as a platform for his growth.

Admission to Demo Day is free, but parking cost $12 for those who mention TXT Demo Day. Otherwise the cost is $20.

The TXT summer academy expanded this year to include a two-week junior summer coding leadership academy for middle school students taught by TXT youth who have been in the program at least two summers. The program also expanded to a second location near Cal Poly Pomona Univesity, and next year expects to grow further.
