The city of Palmdale’s Art Committee, in partnership with the local Girl Scouts, is seeking participants for an art contest in which the winning entries will be displayed at Gabriel’s House, one of the city’s Neighborhood Houses. Gabriel’s House is located at 38553 4th St.

“Would you like to display your original art on the wall at Gabriel’s House,” asked Trish Jones, Palmdale community services coordinator. “We are soliciting submissions for wall art to be installed on the backyard walls of Gabriel’s House.”

To enter the contest, participants must complete a full-color sketch of their original wall art on an eight-and-one-half by 11-inch sheet of paper and either mail or deliver the entry with a full name, e-mail address (if applicable) and a daytime telephone number to: Community Programs/GH Art Wall, 823 E. Avenue Q-9, suite B, Palmdale, CA 93550. You may e-mail the selection to: gabrielshousecontest@gmail.com.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, Aug. 5. Selected artists will be provided with a wall section to complete their original art piece; selected works must be completed by Aug. 28.

“Gabriel’s house” was named after little 8-year-old Gabriel Fernandez who was tragically killed. The facility serves as a music, visual and performing arts center to provide children in the area with the opportunity to develop their creative talents.
