With the air quality slowly returning to normal as firefighters get a stronghold on the Sand Fire, an exciting weekend of fun is scheduled at the Palmdale Amphitheater.
First up tonight is a viewing of the mega-hit “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with gates opening at 6 p.m. and free children’s activities taking place until 8 p.m. (while supplies last). Expect costumes, impromptu dance parties and parades at the popular Family Movie Nights that cost $4 (children under 12 years admitted free). You can bring a cooler with food and non-alcoholic beverages, however all bags will be inspected at the gate. Snack vendors will be on-site and organizers suggest you bring a lawn chair or blanket. Alcohol and pets are not allowed.
This is the latest in the “Star Wars” movie franchise, with the story taking place three decades after the defeat of the Galactic Empire. This time, a new threat arises as the “First Order” attempts to rule the galaxy and only a motley group of heroes can stop them, with the help of the Resistance. The film stars members of the original cast of “Star Wars,” including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

Tomorrow dust off your platform shoes, bell bottom pants and your Afro wig as the city of Palmdale’s summer concert series continues with a Super Soul Saturday: A Party for the Decades featuring DJ Streak, Bump City and Stone Soul.
Hailing from San Francisco, DJ Streak is considered to be one of the best “scratch/turntablist” DJs in the business. He is regarded as one of the fastest DJs to scratch and has performed around the world.
“Booty-shaking party music” can best describe the sound of Bump City. Rooted in improvisation, the all-star musicians are led by drummer Tony Capko and have built an enthusiastic following as they pay tribute to some of the greatest legends of funk, soul and blues such as James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, and The Temptations. They also cover some new artists like Joss Stone, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz.
Stone Soul is known for its “spot-on” renditions of timeless hits by the stars of Motown, Stax and Philadelphia International records. Come and reminisce to the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, BB King and The O’Jays.

Gates will open at 4 p.m. with the music taking place from 5 to 10 p.m. Food, beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Outside food, beverages and coolers are prohibited. Each visitor is allowed to bring one factory-sealed bottle of water; a blanket or lawn chair is recommended.
