How do you explain to an officer that your driver license is in your wallet in your back pocket, and registration/insurance is in a locked console?

I know that recent events have made people nervous of traffic stops. But the Los Angeles Police Department conducts hundreds of traffic stops everyday and nearly all of them conclude without a confrontation. Traffic stops go really well when both the officer and the citizen are calm and are communicating with each other clearly. Generally, if you explain that your wallet is in your back pocket, the officer will instruct you on if he or she wants you to retrieve it. The same goes for the insurance and registration in the console. The most important thing to take away from this is to explain what you intend to do, wait for the approval, and then act.
