The official filing period for the Nov. 8 general municipal election in Palmdale will run from July 18 through Aug. 12. The following offices will be up for election:

Mayor elected citywide for a two-year term;

City council (two members) from District 1 and from District 2 for a full four-year term;

City council (two members) from District 3 and from District 4 for a two-year term.

If nomination papers for an incumbent officer of the city are not filed by Aug. 12 (the 88th day before the election), voters will have until Aug. 17 (83rd day before election) to nominate candidates other than the person(s) who are the incumbent as of Aug. 12 for that incumbent’s office. The extension is not applicable where there is no incumbent eligible to be elected. Also, if no one person is nominated for an elective office, appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed by article 10229 of the Elections Code of the State of California.

Candidate handbooks will be available during the nomination period for the candidates or their designee that include the official filing papers and election information. Those wishing to take out papers must be a registered voter and live within the city boundaries for mayor, and for city council within the boundaries of the district for which they are running. Council District 1 is generally located in the southern portion of the city. Council District 2 is generally located in the western portion of the city. Council District 3 is generally located in the central portion, and Council District 4 is generally located in the eastern portion of Palmdale. Candidates are encouraged to make an appointment with the Palmdale City Clerk to secure and file official papers. This process will ensure that specific time is set aside for the necessary filing procedures.
