Guillermo Hector Diaz, 30, was convicted Tuesday of one count each of first-degree murder and first-degree residential burglary, along with two counts each of resisting an executive officer and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. Jurors also found true an allegation that Diaz personally used a knife during the commission of the Dec. 22, 2014, attack on Robert Villagran. Diaz broke into his estranged wife’s South Los Angeles apartment and
confronted her and her boyfriend before stabbing the man several times with a pocketknife, according to prosecutors.Diaz prevented his estranged wife and her 6-year-old daughter from calling police, prosecutors said. He was arrested the day of the attack and has remained behind bars. He is due back in a Compton courtroom for sentencing June 27.
