The city of Palmdale is encouraging residents to participate in the new MyWaste photo contest where a simple smartphone photo can win a Family 4-Pack to DryTown Water Park.
“We have a great resource for our residents in the MyWaste smart phone app,” said Ben Lucha, Palmdale senior management analyst. “To help spread the word about it, and to help people become more familiar with how to use it, we’re going to give away Family 4-Pack passes to Drytown Water Park from now through August.”
To enter the contest, residents must have the “push notifications” of the app turned on and follow the instructions on sending specific photos to the city with the app under the “Contest” setting. City of Palmdale employees and their families are not eligible to participate.
“We will be giving instructions for residents to take photos of doing things such as putting their recycling materials in their proper receptacles, going to specific points of interest around the city, and so on,” said Kristin Holloway, also a management analyst with the city. “They will be easy tasks, and in addition to having the chance to win the tickets, it will be well worth it to learn how to use this valuable app.”
To acquire the app, visit www.cityofpalmdale.org/departments/publicworks/mywaste with your smartphone, select the appropriate icon and download the app free of charge. The app is free on the iPhone and Droid App Store, and is available on Google Play on Droid.
The MyWaste app enables residents to receive alerts of trash/recycling collection days, notifications for street sweeping, a forum for general questions regarding street sweeping and trash/recycling services, and the ability to report various issues.
“By using the function on their phone, residents can report graffiti, downed trees, broken sprinklers, flooding or other issues to the staff person who is responsible for handling it and pinpoint the exact location,” Lucha added.
Other benefits of the app include allowing residents the option to receive reminders during times when there are changes to their schedule such as holidays, providing answers to frequently asked questions, offering quick and easy way to figure out whether or not an item is recyclable, and allowing the reporting of issues such as missed collections or street sweeping.
