Antelope Valley Hospital (AVH) will host a free Women’s Heart Health Awareness Fair  tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held in the Community Resource Center/City of Hope Auditorium, 44105 15th Street West, Lancaster.

“Get Pumped About Heart Health” will feature heart health presentations, health screenings, CPR demonstrations and refreshments. Speakers will include Sharon Runner (R-Antelope Valley); Dr. Sameh Gadallah, medical director at the AVH Institute for Heart Health and Vascular Care; Dr. Jennifer Termeer, emergency medicine specialist; and Laurie Ramirez, director of cardiovascular services at the hospital.

February is American Heart Month and AVH is encouraging women to learn more about their personal risk for heart disease. Risk factors include smoking, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, being overweight or obese, lack of physical activity, poor diet, diabetes and pre-diabetes, and other conditions such as sleep apnea, stress and alcohol abuse.

“Every risk factor counts,” said Stephanie Herider of the AVH chest pain center, “and having more than one can put you at serious risk. We hope women take the time to come and learn more about how to protect their heart. It will be a fun an informative day.”
